Welcome to the Monday Media Blog on Chief 187™Chatter.

Wii Bowling, people have been finding their inner athlete while sitting in the comfort of their home.

What are your favorite sports-themed video games? Do you play sitting down or do you stand and get your heart-rate up in a pseudo workout?

Have you used a gaming system to actually try to lose weight like the Wii Fit? If so, how successful were you?

Are you a fantastic player on the virtual links but can’t putt in reality if your life depended on it?

Can you consistently win the Daytona 500 in your living room but are a terrible driver?

Tell about your virtual sports history, hobby, and preferences.

  1. I only know about two sports video games and before I got into them I seriously under estimated the power of play station. The first was TOCA2 based on the 1998 British Touring Car Championship. It was great fun once I'd progressed out of the kiddy level and I was seriously addicted.

The other game I know is Gran Turismo I more or less completed the original and the 2nd one but GT4 was a nightmare I could never hope to complete. I have heard good things about GT5 if I find a year or two to spare I might give it ago :-)

  2. I only play once a year during the holidays and its Gran Turismo. I use to spend my shoe shine money at the corner ma pa store in Chicago playing grand prix, the first video racing game of its time. It was 25cents and you had to pry me off that game to leave.

Over the weekend my friend or should I say my inherited mother turned 75 years young and we played a board game called Bubble Pop. It was a lot a fun, your shown a picture card and you get 7 cards that have pharses written on them and you give the person showing the card the best pharse from your hand of cards that best describes the picture. We all laughed and had a great time.

  3. I love Wii Fit & Wii Fit Plus. I hold the top spot in many of the games/activities and have become quite competitive with other family members and myself. The "Advanced Step" is a thorn in my side... I am DETERMINED to get a perfect score in that game, even if it takes me the rest of my life. The "Basic Step" is easy peasy for me to get a perfect score, so advanced is the next hurdle. Some games I simply can not play. There is a game similar to the show Wipeout. When you get hit or fail to jump at the right time you "fall" out of the clouds, I get nauseated when playing this. Shame because it seems fun until that happens. Good fun stuff!

I also enjoy Wii Sports. I do stand up and play, as it just adds to the fun. I feel a great false sense of athleticism when playing golf. :D The golf is most fun for me.

My husband and oldest son enjoy Madden Football. I think we have a racing game.

I remember during my "career" working at video stores the kids would clamor for the "Fifa Soccer" and "Madden Football" games. Even coming in on their way home from school, money in hand ready to snag a copy first. They also tended to not get returned as well as other games. :/ There were a few others that both boys and big boys were ready to rent on release day... usually a football game and Need for Speed.

Going farther "back in the day" I LOVED "Pole Position" and would save my quarters, walk to Mountain Mike's Pizza and pretend that I had my license and really allowed to drive. There was another driving game that I enjoyed, but I can't remember the name. I remember green balls of energy, black cars, and oil slicks. If anyone knows that title of that one... message me. ;)
