Welcome back in to the Monday Movie Blog. We had a little break from our alphabetized list last week in honor of Valentine's Day. That list of romantic movies was a lot of fun to create and is a great sub-category to have on file. Thank you to all who left their selections. As I'm writing this, winter's strong hand still has my region firmly in its grip and the white stuff is falling again. We are well ensconced in the type of weather that encourages sitting home, popping some corn, and snuggling to watch a good movie.
Today's focus is on movies that begin with the letter "G". Search your collections, your minds, and your databases to find all of the movies that begin with the letter "G" that you loved. Please tell who was in the movie and a reason or two why you loved the movie so. Remember, the more information provided, the easier it is for people to make an informed decision.
Slightly off topic, but to continue last week's NASCAR thread, a huge congratulations to long-time NASCAR team owners the Wood Brothers on winning the Daytona 500 with their phenom twenty-year-old driver Trevor Bayne. It was a fantastically exciting race from start to finish, and showed that NASCAR is the most entertaining sport around! NASCAR's history (Wood Bros.) and its future (Trevor Bayne) sped us into the 2011 season and ushered in a new era, one where we can let Dale Earnhanrdt go and concentrate on the here and now. And the here and now is completely exciting!
Now, let's refocus and start our list of "G" movies! That is, movies that start with the letter "G", not rated "G" necessarily! As always, I look forward to seeing your lists. Thank you!
Ghost- Demi Moore, the late Patrick Swayze & Whoopi Goldberg. 80's flick that made pottery a very sexy activity. Swayze is murdered, finds Whoopi and speaks through her. Enlists his live in girlfriend to solve his murder.
ReplyDeleteGoodfellas- Directed by Martin Scorsese. Ray Liotta, DeNiro. Real life gangster Henry Hill (and snitch)and his rise to the top of the organization. It doesn't glamorize the mob life, but give a little taste of the behind the scenes. I love this movie. Well done (of course- Scorsese). Interesting, and since it has the "true life" slant... I like it even more!
Ghostbusters- Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Anne Potts. Who hasn't heard of or seen Ghostbusters?! On a recent plane trip, the gentleman next to me was watching it on his in flight entertainment. I didn't even need headphones for the movie... I knew exactly what music was playing and what lines were being said... Great, fun movie, not necessarily for the kids believe it or not.
Grease- John Travola, Stockard Channing, Didi Conn, Olivia Newton John. This is another movie that I expect everyone has seen and can sing a long with!
Gremlins- Phoebe Cates. SCARY! But really how hard is it to follow directions? Don't feed them after midnight, Keep them out of light and never get them wet. Cute and cuddly Gizmo pet, turns into a horribly wrong nightmare... not for sensitive kids.
I feel like there are more, I just can't think of them.
Congrats to cutie-patootie Trevor Bayne... How can you NOT like that kid?
Goonies - one of my all time favorite movies!! Watch the adventues of teenagers/young kids as they follow a pritate's treasure map. Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton. Who can't love the friendly "monster" Sloth??? To this day, when I hear Cyndi Lauper's "Good Enough", it brings back memories of this fun movie!!! As a personal note, my grandma took my brothers, my two cousins and I to see this movie. Fun times and great memories....

ReplyDeleteGodzilla, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, one of the most popular films in the UK The Great Escape, and one with one of my all time favourite quotes 'Frankly my dear I don't give a damn' Gone with the wind :-)

Gia- Angelina Jolie, a model struggles with her demons.
Gone With The Wind- Clark Gable, Olivia De Havilland, Love story set in the south. Classic
Gone is 60 seconds- Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie, a remake of a early 70's movie that is action packed.
Good Intentions- Luke Perry, Lee Ann Rimes, a good southern comedy about family decisions.
Get Him To The Greek- David Wenhem, Timothy Spall, comedy about a man trying to get a rocker to the states.
Grown Ups- Adam Sadler, a funny comedy about school friends that get challenged to a sporting game.
Looking forward to this weekend Oscar party we have with friends and playing yahoo Oscar fantasy league.
I'm not a big movie fan. No time to sit for hours to watch. NASCAR races are my rest on butt-entertainment day. But I will sit for a cartoon-animation type movie with my grandson. Nothing comes to mind at this moment but Cars ll is coming in a few months. We're psyched.
