Monday Movie Blog

We are now finding our pace on this Monday blog. Movies are a topic many of you are passionate about and I'm enjoying the list of movies you are providing! My hope is that eventually we'll have more people contribute to create even longer queues for us to pick. In the meantime, we have terrific participation and super titles. Today's letter is "C". Please leave all of your favorite movies that begin with the letter "C". I prefer not just a title but the reason why you enjoyed the movie and even any stars who were in it. The more information we have the easier it is for us to decide if we'd like to see the movie.

For those of you, like me, who watched the Golden Globe Awards last night, what did you think? I don't get to see many (any?) movies in the theaters so I cannot comment to the movie side of things, but I do get to watch television. My favorite show currently is Glee. I was thrilled to see Glee pick up statues for Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and the show. This program makes Tuesday my favorite night of the week and marries two of my passions - music and high school students (I used to teach high school history)! Chris Colfer's speech was heartfelt and intelligent and Jane Lynch's speech was hilarious! I'm just hoping the show not only stays on for a few more years, but that it stays at the same caliber.

Natalie Portman, pregnant, looked ravishing in her pink confection and Angelina Jolie was as sexy as ever in her glittery green dress. Robert Downy Jr. made me howl at his presentation and Ricky Gervais as host was uninhibited with his remarks! I never make it through the whole awards show; this one is one of my favorites and would love to hear your take on it.

Looking forward to seeing the list of "C" movies we compile! Wishing you a great start to the work/school week. To those of you observing, Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

  2. Cutting Edge,The- D.B.Sweeney & Miora Kelly. Hockey star turned pairs figure skater with ice princess. LOVE the soundtrack and can quote at least 80% of the movie. Most popular of the movie being "Toe pick!" I enjoy the "If it was 40 below..." speech he gives her after she insists on him buttoning his top button. Perfect! It is extremely formulaic, but still a good flick.

Clueless- Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash and the late Brittney Murphy. Being a "California Girl" I LOVE this movie. Generally mind numbing, nothing about this movie makes you think, but it is a cute movie nonetheless. Thank you Miss Nora Ephron for this little gem.

Confessions of a Shopaholic- Isla Fisher. As someone who wishes to be a shopaholic, I enjoyed this movie. Another non-Oscar type movie, just a good Friday night chick-flick.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen- Lindsay Lohan. When I saw this movie I understood what people liked about her acting. Too bad she is the mess that she is now.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- Johnny Depp. My kids have seen both, they prefer the original. I prefer the one with Johnny Depp. Reading the book is also suggested.

Cape Fear- Deniro. "Come out, come out where ever you are!" Thriller remake, spooky, creepy fun!

Candyman- Quite possibly the last horror movie I've seen. It is when I realized I preferred suspense to horror. This movie SCARED me! It is a movie that seems to spin off the "Bloody Mary" game.

Cars- Owen Wilson. It's Pixar, it's racing... you just can't go wrong!

Charlotte's Web- animated version. Read the book and still cry when Charlotte dies. We had a writing spider that lived on our sliding glass door and it was fascinating to watch her weave her web, get large with an egg sac and watch the egg sacs hatch and then watch the teeny tiny baby spiders "fly" away. Just like the movie.

Crush- Alicia Silverstone & Cary Elwes. Teenager stalker movie. Love me some Cary Elwes!

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs- Neil Patrick Harris. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie! Great messages for both parents and kids! I saw it in the theater and wanted to turn around, go back in and watch it again. We have had it in our DVR for MONTHS. I thought the story was great and I thought it was well done.

That is it! At least that is all I can think of. I have a feeling I have forgotten some good ones. :(

  3. Chinatown- Jack Nicholson & Faye Dunaway, Classic movie about a private investigator with a great twist at the end(1974).

A Clock Work Orange- Michael McDowell, its a dark movie but very well made and its a classic(1971).

Citizen Kane- Orson Wells & Joseph Cotton and other greats of the time, some people say its the greatest movie ever made. I like it even if its from way back in the day(1940's).

Con Air- Nicolas Cage, "put the bunny back in the box", love that line in the movie(2005or06)

Catch Me If You Can- Tom Hanks & Leonardo DiCaprio, its about a counterfiet check maker who cashes checks all over the world. I liked this movie(2002).

Last Mondays MMB, I forgot to add "Bullet", one of my favorites for the chase scene.
