Monday Media Blog-Best Televised Sports Moments

Welcome to the Monday Media Blog on Chief 187™Chatter.

Recently I polled my readership about their favorite Reality Television shows. And, while some enjoyed the genre, many stated watching sports was their favorite reality focus.

Because sports play out live, the outcomes are never truly known, and the drama within a game/race/event can run exceedingly high, it gives its audience a pure rush.

This week’s focus is the five best televised sports moments ever in your opinion. No sport, including collegiate, is off-limits but it needs to be an event that was shown on television so we all had the opportunity to have seen it.

My choices would include:

1st televised flag-to-flag coverage of the 1979 Daytona 500

The U.S. Olympic Hockey Team beating the Russian Olympic Hockey Team in 1980

Dale Earnhardt winning the Daytona 500 in 1998

Kevin Harvick winning the Cracker Barrel 500 in Atlanta March 11, 2001

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s win at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona July 7, 2001

I am, of course, vastly interested in what football games, basketball, baseball, hockey games, or races you would put on your list. Please leave your selections in the comments below.

  3. 1. 1984 Winter Olympics Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. Ice Dancing. Jayne Torvel & Christopher Dean. Free Dance. Bolero. Perfect Scores. Moving. It case you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8obUdxnTlc

    2. 2000 Winston All-Star Race. Dale Jr. wins. My favorite part wasn't even the race itself, but watching his daddy dressed and running across the infield to hug his son. The pride and the beaming on Sr.'s face and Jr.'s face seemed to say, "Daddy I did it!" Getting teary thinking about it! LOVE that moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqj5D_0bv_E

    3. 2012 University of Kentucky Wildcat Cheerleaders. Bring home their 19th championship (in 28 years of competition). They are my favorite. I nailed my "fantasy picks" this year. UK 1st, Alabama 2nd, UCF 3rd. GO CATS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bYpV-FTyDE

    4. Daytona 500. Sterling Marlin gets out of his car during a red flag to pull his fender. Priceless!

    5. 1996 Fiesta Bowl. Nebraska vs. Florida. We (Nebraska) won 62-24. That was just awesome(to me)!

  4. Well, dang!! You have 2 of mine, Candice. #1 is The US Hockey win. #2 (for me) U T Vols beat FSU for National Championship in 1998. #3. Red Sox finally winning World Series. #4 Dale Sr winning the Daytona 500. #5 In either the Masters or US Open golf Tournament, Tiger Woods made a putt from off the green. The ball stopped for 2 seconds with the NIKE logo perfectly in the frame, then dropped in the hole. That was priceless!! BTW, not necessarily a TW fan, was just a great moment to see. NIKE has milked that one!

  5. When Dale won the Daytona 500. When Dale came from 18th to first in 4 laps to win at Talladega. The US Olympic Hockey Team beating the Russians. The Mets winning the World Series in 1969. When Kevin Harvick won his first Cup race and EVERYONE in the stands raised 3 fingers one his victory lap in honor of Dale Earnhardt.
