Tantalizing Thursday-Michigan

Welcome to Tantalizing Thursday on Chief 187™Chatter.

As NASCAR travels north and west of where I live I’m excited to delve into the different food combinations that identify the region.

The Quicken Loans 400 is being held at the Michigan International Speedway which is obviously located in “The Great Lakes State”.

From cherries to apples, bratwursts to cheese, Michigan has a plethora of fabulous foods to utilize to make fabulous dishes. These are the ones I found for this week’s post.

First is a great recipe for a summer lunch or a light dinner. It incorporates cherries in an unexpected but delightful way.

Michigan Chicken Salad

"My husband hated even the mention of chicken salad until he tried this. Now he requests it regularly!"

Ingredients:

3 cups diced cooked chicken
1/2 cup diced celery
1/4 cup diced onion
1/4 cup chopped dried cherries
3/4 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

Combine the chicken, celery, onion, and cherries in a bowl. Whisk together the mayonnaise, mustard, and poultry seasoning in a separate bowl; pour over the chicken mixture and toss to combine. Season with pepper. Chill at least 30 minutes before serving.

Michigan is definitely known for bratwursts. Brats are a fantastic way to take your hot dog dinners to the next level. When cooking brats it’s important to remember not to let the casing crack lest the juices leak leaving a dry product.

Best Grilled Bratwurst
Recipe found on http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1626,159187-230203,00.html

Ingredients:

Bratwurst
1 can beer
1 1/2 c. water
1 c. ketchup

Directions:

Grill bratwurst over medium heat, turning occasionally, for about 20 minutes. Combine beer, water and ketchup in large saucepan. Simmer the grilled brats in beer mixture for 15 to 30 minutes.

Finally, after hearty brats to fill one’s belly, a lighter, fresh dessert might be the order of the evening. Try this one.

Peaches and Cream
Recipe found on http://allrecipes.com/recipe/peaches-and-cream/detail.aspx

"A light, easy dessert that looks impressive!"

Ingredients:

1 large fresh peach - peeled, pitted and sliced
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons sour cream
1 tablespoon chopped pecans

Directions:

1. Place sliced peach in a small serving dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar and spoon sour cream on top. Sprinkle with pecans.

With this recipe the peaches can be grilled to enhance their already great sweetness. The simplicity and exquisite taste of this dish is sublime with fresh summer peaches.

Who will win at Michigan on Father’s Day this weekend? You will if you make these recipes, especially the grilled brats for Dad!

Happy Father’s Day! Remember to honor Dad for all he does. His role in the family is vitally important and often overlooked.
