The road has been rocky, fraught with danger, perilous, and closed at times. But, more often than not, it was scenic, awe-inspiring, full of twists and turns that were fun to drive, relatively easy to navigate, and definitely worth the drive.
We decided long ago that life is far more wonderful together than apart so we'll be on the road together as long as we're both "driving".
We have three children who we shower with unbridled love and do adore spending time. But, for the first time in a very long time, we’d like to get away to celebrate our anniversary sans children.
Although we have to stay within a budget, our imagination seems to hamper us more than monetary constraints. We’d like to escape to somewhere for 4 days or so and have fun.
If you had to go away for a min-vacation anywhere in the U.S. (I don’t want to spend my vacation travelling and/or jet-lagged), where would you go? When would you go there? What would you do there?
Part of the fun of going on a trip is looking forward to it! And learning about the places you all will recommend will also add to the anticipation and excitement.
So do me this special favor and suggest away – destinations can and should vary! From sandy beaches and warm surf to
racing destinations that are “must attend” to New Orleans during Mardi Gras or a strawberry festival in June. Leave
your ideal vacation get-a-way and when we eventually/finally book, I’ll let you know where we have decided to go!

My Aunt and Uncle took a cruise vacation once and after that they were ALL Cruise Vacations for them. Everywhere from Jamaica, to Alaska, to Disney, and on and on. I personal always wanted to take the American version of the "Orient Express", a train ride that includes Yosemite Park and some other views that are "POSTCARD WORTHY SITES".

4 days or so in January? If you like to ski, go to Vermont. If you want sun, go to Florida...with kids, Orlando. If it's just the 2 of you, fly in to Miami, hang out in South Beach and take a day and drive out to Key West.

1. Outer Banks. Wild horses, lighthouses, Jockey's Ridge (HUGE sand dune), Wright Brothers memorial/museum. http://www.outerbanks.org/
2. Wilmington, NC. This includes Wrightsville Beach, Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher, Cape Fear River, Topsail Beach (pronounced "top sill"), Southport and Bald Head Island. Lots of things to do. Something for everyone. USS North Carolina Battleship tour is neat. Walk along the Cape Fear River walk in downtown Wilmington. (One Tree Hill & Dawson's Creek both filmed here). Fort Fisher has a really nice aquarium. Topsail has the Sea Turtle Hospital. You can schedule a tour there too. I love getting to see some of the turtles up close, but it also breaks my heart to see the condition some of them are in. They do great work there. My FAVORITE thing about the area is taking a ferry from Southport to Bald Head Island. BHI is CAR FREE! You can walk around, rent a bike or a golf cart. There are a couple of restaurants there, or you can pack a picnic and save some money. They have a turtle conservancy there you can check out. Old Baldy lighthouse (the smallest lighthouse I've ever seen). Also, see how "the other half" live. My mom keeps talking about coming from CA to visit and taking me away just a girls getaway... I plan on doing this with her. 3. Asheville, NC. Home of the Biltmore Estate. Built by Cornelius Vanderbilt... If you get there early enough, it may still be decorated for Christmas, which is incredible! There are also lots of shops and museums. It is in the mountains (in January), so I don't know what that would be like.
