It is not about price, although a pricey gift can be a lovely gesture IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT, but gifts from the hands, heart, discount store, pharmacy, and grocery store as well as the candy shop, lingerie store, and florist are wonderful as well.
First, I begin with a Jewelry Gift Guide for Valentine’s Day. It is a lifelong passion and, quite frankly, a most marvelous Valentine’s Gift.
Heart Jewelry – Big hearts, little hearts, several hearts, one floating heart, as long as the heart motif is there it is an ideal Valentine’s gift for young or old, as long as the person you gift it to is loved by you.
Heart jewelry can be found easily in costume jewelry and fine jewelry alike. Buy what you love and you can afford.
Gemstone Jewelry – Diamonds are always popular, but they are expensive. If you want to buy them, be my guest and what a lucky recipient you have! But other gemstones are wonderful for this holiday and do not cost nearly as much yet make a huge impact.
Garnets – January’s birthstone; red garnets are a deep woodsy red to a berry red if you purchase the rhodolite variety. The Garnet is a stone of purity and truth as well as a symbol of love and compassion. It looks lovely in a heart setting or any mounting.
Amethysts – February’s birthstone; purple amethysts are popular, regal looking, and fabulous! Saturation of color is up to the purchaser with darker usually meaning more valuable. The word amethyst comes from the Greek meaning "without drunkenness" and amethyst is believed to protect one from poison. So whether your Valentine has a February birthday, is an addict looking for a talisman, or just adores purple, amethyst is a good suggestion.
And now for the rest of the Valentine’s Gift Guide!
Lingerie – a sexy, pretty, cute, womanly, and suggestive gift. Valentine’s Day is about L-O-V-E so wrap up a sexy number (in HER SIZE) and gift it to the BOTH of you! Don’t know her size? Do some detective work. If she is bigger than Victoria’s Secret, then get ye to Lane Bryant! Fabulous selection of undergarments and lingerie for the woman in your life with curves!
Sexy Undies for HIM – Guys like to be thought of sexually, too, Ladies. Silky boxers, suggestive undies, and the like are all appreciated because it shows your mind isn’t on Glee all of the time!
Tickets to a concert, sporting event, or something else you enjoy TOGETHER – Making memories is a great gift!
Mixed CD or Playlist for the MP3 player – What’s more romantic or loving than creating a playlist of songs you deem appropriate for the person you are gifting them to? Works for romantic love, familial love, friends, and even co-workers!
Homemade Coupon book – For parents to kids there can be curfew extensions, borrowing the car, and slumber party weekends. For romantic partners, your imagination is your limitation!
Spa Day or ½ hour – Whatever you can afford for your Valentine, a bit of time with a professional masseuse, stylist, manicurist, etc. will relax and nourish him/her allowing for a very happy returned Valentine who wants to show you their appreciation!
Sweets – A huge heart-shaped box of fine chocolates, chocolate-covered strawberries, Junior’s Cheesecake, or a bowl of Swedish Fish; whatever they are into and would enjoy, treat them! If you bake, great! If you merely shop, that’s fine, too!
Dinner at home – Make his/her favorite, add a bottle of wine, a reasonable bouquet of flowers, and some alone time (sans kids).
You will see these suggestions from me over and over again because I feel they are timeless.
Yes, of course, buy him an iPhone and her a diamond tennis bracelet if you can afford it and you want to, but for the rest of us, Valentine’s Day can be done reasonably, beautifully, in a family way, or in a romantic way, with a little time, planning, patience, and laughter!
I hope you use some of these ideas now and in the future! Why not make a Valentine Every Month Gift and celebrate Valentine’s Day the 14th of every month?
