Monday Movie Blog - British Comedy

Welcome to the Monday Movie Blog on Chief 187 Chatter. My family and I were at our friends’ home for dinner the other night and they mentioned several movies they thought we’d enjoy. Over the years they have recommended some great flicks that we were thrilled we got to

see. To make sure we didn’t lose the names in our faulty collective memory, my intelligent husband called our home number and left a voicemail with the names of the movies! Another place to gather your favorite movie titles in one spot is the Monday Movie Blog, one stop browsing for great movie titles!

This week’s topic is favorite British Comedy. Be sure to include the list of stars, a brief summary or a review of the film.

To access former Monday Movie Blogs simply type “Monday Movie Blog” in the search feature located in the upper left hand corner of this page. Feel free to browse over the many articles with countless topics and selections to choose. I urge and encourage you to continue to add movie titles to any and all of the topics as this is an ever growing resource for all to use.

Please join me tomorrow for Simple Joys, the most popular post of every week on Chief 187 Chatter.

  1. Douglas Adams' "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" will forever reign as my favorite British comedy. Although this started out as a TV series, several movie versions have been produced - although they were typically not available in the US (I had a BBS friend, Trillion, who mailed VHS copies of them to me)- the latest incarnation is available here and is pretty good - better effects - but not quite as funny as the original cast.

An Earth man and his alien friend escape Earth's destruction and go on a truly strange adventure as space hitchhikers.

    Stars:
Simon Jones, David Dixon and Peter Jones

  2. The Carry-On films. Bawdy and definitely dodgy for the time, but nowadays they seem quite tame. Those with Syd James, Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques were by far the best. Titles include "Carry On Matron," "Carry on Dick" [as in Dick Turpin, a true Robin Hood kind of character], and "Carry on camping" are some of the funniest.

  3. I am a Peter Sellers fan, and the two movies that come to mind are:
The Mouse That Roared, and the Man In The Flannel Suit.
They are a bit silly of course, but were considered way out there when first shown.
    Keep warm.

  4. Saving Grace (the movie from 2000) was very funny. I believe it inspired the cable show Weeds, which I have never seen.

  5. I always loved the tv series Are You Being Served?. It's about a department store and it's staff members. Then there's Hitch Hikers Guide To The Universe. I've read the book many times. The tv shows and movies just can't do it justus. Then there's Monty Pythons Flying Circus. A great ADULT tv comedy sketch series.
