Tantalizing Thursday

Happy September!

Welcome to Tantalizing Thursday on Chief 187 Chatter. The unofficial end of summer is upon us as Labor Day Weekend is here. My children start back to school on Tuesday so this is the last weekend of reckless abandon until next summer begins. While most people will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs over Labor Day, my family does something a bit different. We host our annual “Fakesgiving” Dinner. We invite some close friends to share a roast turkey and the trimmings in a casual, relaxed, warm, and usually outdoor setting. We do this to tell these people how truly thankful we are they are in our lives. We get a delicious meal out of the offering, and, as this meal is wont to do, we make out with awesome leftovers that taste great in school lunchboxes for the first week of classes!

Fakesgiving Menu
Menu created by Chief 187 and millions of Americans

Roast Turkey
Stuffing
Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Cranberries with fresh summer berries
Veggies in season
Rolls/butter
Corn or String Bean casserole
Pumpkin Pie
Assorted fruit pies (fresh)

What is most important is making the meal easy by allowing the guests to bring their favorite side dish to the dinner so the onus is not all on you to create the entire meal. We’ve had great success hosting this event and look forward to Labor Day every summer. Even though it is a transition to the school year/ending of summer, the meal makes it festive and fun.

Prefer grilling your turkey? Go for it! Hate stuffing? Omit it! Can’t make lumpless gravy to save your life? Buy it! Need a relish tray? Add it! Hate baking? Hit up a farm stand or your local Costco!

Use this as a guide but do your own thing with your friends and family. It’s always so nice to take the time to do this before Thanksgiving as that is typically a time for family obligations. Sharing the meal with friends in a relaxed summer setting makes it all the more joyful!

Join me tomorrow as we play our way into the Labor Day Weekend with the Friday Music Blog!
